What is Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings?

Situated just outside Shrewsbury town centre, the internationally important Flaxmill Maltings site reflects a time when Shropshire led the way in engineering. The site is home to eight special buildings each with a unique story to tell, including the 1797 Main Mill which is the grandparent of skyscrapers.

This remarkable piece of the industrial revolution is being restored, and when open in 2022 will be a place where you can visit, work, eat and learn.

We can’t wait to share the stories of this amazing place and its people when the new visitor experience opens next year.

What will you be able to do?

Inspiration awaits. Come and explore the history of the Flaxmill Maltings in our new exhibition, and learn why the Main Mill is the grandparent of skyscrapers.

Opening 10 September 2022.
