Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings are pleased to announce a new guided tour – the chance to climb to the viewing gallery at the top of the Jubilee Tower. This opportunity is one of the most exciting developments in the restoration project, offering fantastic views of Shrewsbury, and the surrounding countryside beyond from the eighth storey of the building. The Jubilee Tower was constructed in 1897 as part of the transformation of the site from a flaxmill to a barley maltings. It housed the machinery that powered the grain elevators that moved the barley around the buildings, but also honoured Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Visitors can examine the fine decoration of the coronet up close as well as getting a great view of the whole of the historic Flaxmill Maltings site.
The tour will be led by one of our expert volunteers, with small tour groups of up to 6 people at a time. Access to the upper floors is done by foot only with the final route extending up 56 steps, therefore this tour is only suitable for those able to make the climb and with a head for heights.
Tours will run on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 2pm and take about an hour. The Jubilee Tower tour will not run in extreme weather conditions including windspeeds of over 37 miles per hour. Full refunds will be given for any cancellations due to weather conditions.
As tour group sizes are small. we thoroughly recommend booking in advance to guarantee your place.
