The Mill Exhibition

Visit Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and discover the building that changed skylines across the world forever. 

The Mill exhibition on the ground floor of the Main Mill is self-guided and brings to life the story of this iconic landmark of the industrial revolution. 

With digital and hands-on activities for all ages, walk one of the floors where spinning machines whirred, flax flew and barley was processed for beer to brew. Discover the lives and stories of workers, engineers, soldiers and entrepreneurs who played their part in one of the greatest heritage transformations and regenerations of all time. 

From its pioneering beginnings paving the way for skylines across the world, to the campaign to save and repurpose it for future generations to enjoy, you too can now experience the incredible journey of the grandparent of skyscrapers. 

It’s not so run-of-the-mill.

Visitor Information

When I can visit the Mill exhibition?

Wednesday to Sunday between 10am and 4pm. Open Mondays and Tuesdays during Shropshire school holidays and on Bank Holidays.

How long does a visit to the Mill exhibition take?

We recommend at least 60 minutes for a visit, but enthusiasts may need to all for extra time.

What will I see in the Mill exhibition?

The exhibition is on the ground floor of the Main mill, amongst the columns of its iconic iron frame. During a visit to the interactive and informative exhibition, you will learn all about this world important building, the grandparent of the modern skyscraper. Who built it and why? Who worked here over various stages of its life? And about the the regeneration of Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings and future plans.

How much does it cost?

Do I need to pre-book my ticket?

Online booking is recommended in busy times. Please note that when booking, available dates are shaded white. Grey dates are either unavailable or sold out. The booking page will only let you book to a total the capacity number of tickets that are available.

Please note that tours need a separate ticket to The Mill exhibition. Spaces are more limited on guided tours, so if you wish to have both experiences on the same day, we suggest you book your guided tour first before you book your exhibition ticket.
