Getting here

We want to make it as easy as possible to find Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, so here’s all the essential travel information you will need to plan your visit.

Parking is very limited on site so please walk, cycle or use the park and ride service or public transport whenever possible.

By car

There is limited car parking available on site. Please consider other ways of travelling to the Flaxmill Maltings. 

Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings can be found on sat nav systems using our postcode SY1 2SZ. The main visitor car park and main entrance to the site are both on Marshall’s Court, just off the A5191.

Parking is time limited to 4 hours. If you feel you are going to be longer than 4 hours on the day, please register your vehicle in the shop or café for a longer stay.

To get to the main car park from the A5191, follow the signs to the main entrance parking and turn onto Marshall’s Court. Continue on Marshall’s Court, past the Flaxmill Maltings entrance gate, to the end of the road. At the bottom of the road turn right and the visitor car park is signposted on the right. For safety reasons, do not try to drive through the main entrance gates as this is the main pedestrian access point and bollards will restrict your access.

There is a temporary car park near to the Apprentice House.  Access to this is off the mini-roundabout on the A5191, opposite Sultan Road.  The temporary car park can be found on sat nav systems using the postcode SY1 2SZ.

Please be considerate of our neighbours and do not park on the local residential streets. Alternative local parking sites are detailed below. 

Details of the car parks in and around Shrewsbury town centre can be found here: Parking | Shropshire Council. The Flaxmill Maltings around a 20-minute walk from the town centre, although timings will vary dependent on which car park is used.

On foot

It’s a 10 to 15-minute walk from Shrewsbury bus and train station or a 20-minute walk from the main square in Shrewsbury.

From the town centre, follow signs to the train station, then head under the railway bridge into Castle Foregate. From here continue up this road (which becomes St Michael’s Street) for 0.6 miles and the Flaxmill Maltings will be on your left.

There’s an alternative and less-congested walking route from town along the first part of the old Shrewsbury Canal path. At 15 to 20-minutes, it takes slightly longer but is a greener and more pleasant stroll. You can join the path by turning right off Castle Foregate into New Park Road, and a short distance up New Park Road you will see a blue signpost showing the route (if you get to the Severn Hospice Superstore you’ve gone too far. Head back towards the main road and you should spot the sign).  

By bicycle

The Flaxmill Maltings is well connected to the cycleway network. The Old Shrewsbury Canal path cycleway brings you out opposite our entrance. There is also access under the railway bridge from the cycleways in Greenfields Park and Herongate.

There is a mixture of covered and open cycles stores on site with space for 24 bikes to be attached to secure loops.

The covered cycle store behind The Stables is clearly signposted upon arrival. The open cycle stores can be found near the main entrance gate, and near the Dye House.

By train

It’s a 10 to 15-minute walk from Shrewsbury train station.

If you are walking to the Flaxmill Maltings from Shrewsbury train station, turn right when you leave the station building and right again to head under the railway bridge into Castle Foregate. From here continue up this road (which becomes St Michael’s Street) for 0.6 miles and the Flaxmill Maltings will be on your left.  

There is also a taxi rank outside of the station.

By park and ride

You can use the Harlescott park and ride service and get dropped off by and collected from the Flaxmill Maltings. . Click here for more information about the Shrewsbury park and ride services.

The stop for people coming from the park and ride site will be immediately across the road from the Flaxmill Maltings, near the junction to Hallcroft Court. The stop to return to the park and ride site will be in a new bus layby across the road from Frank Painter & Sons.

To access these new stops, tickets must be bought at the Harlescott park and ride site beforehand. People will then be able to use the service as normal and access all the stops on the Harlescott park and ride route.

Harlescott park and ride has 700 parking spaces. Harlescott park and ride closes after the last bus returns. Disabled spaces are available, and a height restriction barrier of 2.1metres is in place. Tickets cost £2.00 for all-day parking and a return trip on the service.

By bus

It’s a 10 to 15-minute walk from Shrewsbury bus station.

Getting to the Flaxmill Maltings from the bus station

You can catch the following services from the bus station and get dropped off by the Flaxmill Maltings:

• 25 (Shrewsbury to Harlescott)
• 511 (Shrewsbury to Wem/Whitchurch)
• 64 (Shrewsbury to Market Drayton)

Getting back to the bus station in Shrewsbury Town Centre

There are two stops to choose from to get you back to Shrewsbury Town Centre.

From the stop outside 1 Sultan Road you can catch the following services:

• 24 (Shrewsbury to Harlescott)
• 25 (Shrewsbury to Harlescott)

From the stop next to Hallcroft Court Junction you can catch the following services:

• 64 (Shrewsbury to Market Drayton)
• 511 (Shrewsbury to Wem/Whitchurch)

By coach

You will be dropped off outside the Flaxmill Maltings. Your coach will then park in a local coach park and return after your visit to collect you. Your coach driver will be able to provide specific details on the day.
